    DVM & Owner

    Dr. Carol graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University in 1986. After graduation, she worked at a veterinary hospital located in New Jersey. In 1994 she partnered with Dr. Marie Pileci to start The Highlands Veterinary Hospital. Since opening in 1994, the practice has grown from a 2 to 4-doctor practice Dr. Carol's main focus at the hospital includes general surgery, general medicine, dermatology, and animal behavior. She spends her free time with her husband, and two children, her Rhodesian Ridgeback and Devon Rex. When she's not working or chauffeuring her daughter to school events, she enjoys travel, cooking, and eventing with her dog.

  • Beth Auger

    DVM

    Dr. Beth Auger is one of our Associate Veterinarians, she graduated from Kansas State University where she earned her degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Beth lived in Sparta prior to becoming a Veterinarian and had worked here at the Highlands for years as our cleaner. She soon after became a Veterinary Assistant at the Highlands and loved the field. Prior to joining us Dr. Beth had been employed at Ringwood Animal Hospital but decided to come back to her hometown in the Highlands. She joined our team on August 10, 2015, and specializes in preventative medicine. When Dr. Beth isn't at work, she loves to spend time with her pup Hunter, who is an adorable beagle mix. Her hobbies include reading and cooking.

  • Hamlin Lucena Jr

    DVM

    Dr. Hamlin received his Bachelor of Science degree from Seton Hall University in May of 2000. After graduation, he started studying veterinary medicine at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. While at Cornell, he was actively involved in the Zoo and Wildlife Society and the hospital's wildlife clinic. He was inducted into the veterinary honor society in April of 2004 and graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in May of the same year. Dr. Hamlin’s veterinary interests include general medicine and preventative care. He has also recently started to learn acupuncture. Dr. Hamlin spends most of his free time with his wife Kelly, and two sons. He enjoys hiking, watching movies, and baking.

  • Lindsay Muhs

    DVM

    Dr. Lindsay received her bachelor’s degree from Muhlenberg College in 2017. During her time at Muhlenberg, she served as the president of the pre-veterinary club and worked as an education intern at the Bergen County Zoo on her summer breaks. After graduation she attended St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies and completed her clinical year training at The University of Missouri in January 2022. While in Grenada, Dr. Lindsay was on the executive board for a club called “Spay and Neuter Pothounds.” Every Sunday she would travel to different areas of Grenada and talk to the community about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. She volunteered at numerous vaccine clinics in her free time and worked as a veterinary assistant at a local veterinary hospital throughout veterinary school. Dr. Lindsay’s passions include preventative medicine, general surgery, client education and internal medicine. In her free time, she likes running, skiing, scuba diving, hiking, and spending time with family, friends and her two dogs (one adopted from a shelter in Grenada, and one adopted from a shelter in Missouri).
